Guidelines for Submission of Documents for Reserved Category Seats


1. Candidates seeking admission to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) / LL.M. Programme at Dharmashastra National Law University, under any reserved category must upload and submit relevant certificates in the prescribed format at the time of admission.


2. Failure to submit the prescribed reservation documents within the stipulated time shall, in the next round of counselling, result in conversion of the allotted seat to the Unreserved category or to the relevant vertical category, as applicable, where documents for a specific horizontal reservation are not produced.


3. To avail reservation under Madhya Pradesh Domicile SC/ST/OBC or other State-specific reserved categories, candidates must submit:

  • (i) Madhya Pradesh Domicile Certificate, and
  • (ii) Relevant Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority of the State of Madhya Pradesh

4. A candidate belonging to any other State, even if residing in Madhya Pradesh, cannot claim reservation under MP domicile reserved categories on the basis of caste certificates issued by other States.


However, such candidates may be considered under:

  • All India reserved category seats (as per merit), or
  • MP Domicile Unreserved Category, subject to eligibility.

5. All India SC/ST candidates must produce caste certificates issued by competent authorities from their State of domicile or any other State/UT. Certificates issued by authorities outside Madhya Pradesh must be in Central Government format.


6. Caste certificates must be issued by a competent authority not below the rank of Tehsildar / Naib Tehsildar.


7. For availing reservation under OBC category, candidates must submit an OBC Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) Certificate clearly stating that the candidate does not belong to the creamy layer.

  • State Government (Madhya Pradesh) certificate – valid for 3 years
  • Central Government format certificate – valid for 1 year
  • All India OBC-NCL candidates must submit certificate in Central Government format
  • MP domicile OBC-NCL candidates may submit certificate in State Government or Central Government format

8. For availing reservation under State-specific reserved categories, candidates must be a domicile of Madhya Pradesh and produce certificates issued by competent authorities of the State. Candidates from outside Madhya Pradesh shall not be eligible for such category seats.


9. To claim reservation under SAP / PwD category (as per CLAT 2026):

  • Disability must be 40% or above, and
  • Must have Disability Certificate issued by competent authority on the recommendation of Medical Board; or Unique Disability ID
  • Certificates issued by any other authority shall not be accepted

10. Candidates seeking reservation under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category shall upload and submit an EWS Certificate valid for the Financial Year of the CLAT Exam.


11. The EWS Certificate must be:

  • Issued by a competent authority notified by the Government of India / State Government
  • Issued for the relevant financial year
  • Clearly certifying that the candidate belongs to the Economically Weaker Section as per prevailing Government of India norms
  • Certificates issued prior to the relevant financial year or without clear validity shall not be accepted

12. Candidates claiming reservation or benefits as Residents of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) must upload and submit:

  • Domicile / Resident Certificate issued by the competent authority of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir
  • Any other supporting document as may be prescribed by the CLAT Consortium or University
  • The domicile certificate must clearly mention permanent residency in J&K

13. Candidates claiming reservation under Freedom Fighter or Defence Personnel categories must produce Candidate’s MP Domicile Certificate, valid photo ID, proof of status and relationship, issued by a competent authority.


14. Failure to submit valid domicile and category certificates shall result in cancellation of the reserved seat and the candidate shall be considered under the applicable category as per merit.


15. The University reserves the right to verify the authenticity of all uploaded certificates or call for affidavit. Any discrepancy, misrepresentation or forged document shall lead to cancellation of admission and initiation of legal action, as per law.
